Cathay Pacific Ticket Cancellation, Rebooking Policy, and Refund Status

Cathay Pacific is the flag carrier with the main hub located at Hong Kong. With more than 190 destinations are being served with its passenger and cargo facility of the airport.

Other than the flights to India, it serves around 60 countries worldwide with codeshare and partner airlines.

Air travel can save a lot of time; you only need to spend money on ticket as airfares are higher than other travel tools.

There are many ways to save some money but you must be aware of those tricks otherwise you will splurge on air travel.

Here are the Cathay Pacific Ticket Cancellation and refund policy explained below so that you can easily avoid unnecessary charges:

Ticket Cancellation:

According to Cathay pacific cancellation policy, you can cancel the reservations within 24 hours to get the full refund.

Cancelation can be from two sides either from airlines or from yours.

If you miss the flight/connection due to delayed incoming flight, or mechanical problems, then the airline is responsible for:

  • Change or re-book you another flight without any fee.
  • Refund your ticket price if passenger no longer wants to fly.
  • Re-route the passenger to the destination by another carrier under comparable conditions.
  • If necessary, pay for accommodation, transport, food on the discounted rates.

Another case is when the passenger cancels the ticket:

Then the passenger has to pay cancellation charges if canceled after 24 hours of booking. Cancellation charges depend on the route and class of flight you are flying.

Process of ticket CANCELLATION with Cathay Pacific:

Ticket cancellation can be costlier when not done smartly. There are different ways to cancel the ticket:

Online Process:

  • On the “Change Booking” button on the airline’s website enter the ticket number and the last name on the reservation.
  • Select the Cancel option and accept the requests for confirming.
  • If you have booked the refundable ticket then follow the refund instructions to get the refund.

Cancellation on Call:

  • You can directly call the customer service number of the airline to cancel your ticket. They will ask you the information related to ticket such as six-digit ticket number. Then ask them for the refund so that the representative can make further process it.

Ticket Office:

  • Call at the travel agency where you can cancel the ticket in-person.
  • Ask them about the cancellation policy and make further changes in your itinerary and get the refund.

Also, if you are canceling the ticket due to an emergency such as death, then you may get the discount on cancelation too. It will help you in savings by lowering the cancelation charges.

Exceptions of Cancellation Claim:

  • If the airline has informed you about the cancelation around 14 days before the scheduled departure then you can’t ask for a claim.
  • If the airline informs you around 7 to 13 days before the flight departure date and they provide an alternate one. In such a situation, you need to depart no more than 2 hours and arrive at your final destination less than 4 hours.
  • When the airline informs you in less than 7 days the original departure before about the cancellation, and then you will be offered another flight instead of the original one. Conditions attached to it are, you need to depart no more than 1 hour and arrive at the final destination less than 2 hours.

Cathay Pacific Cancellation Charges:

  1. Cathay pacific refunds the Dragon tickets within 2 years after the date of issue. If these 2 years is extended, then there will be no 100% refund or 100% cancellation charges.
  2. The processing time for the refund on partially/fully used tickets is done after cancelation charges are applied and is processed in:
  3. 7 days for credit card transactions.
  4. 20 days for cash, online payment or bank transfer, etc.
  5. If the ticket has been purchased through a travel agent then contact them directly for the refund.

Notification of Delay and Diversion of Flights:

Sometimes the flight gets delayed and passengers have to suffer due to it. It is the right of a passenger to be aware of the flight status.

  • If a flight is delayed for 4 hours or more, then the passenger is entitled to assistance.
  • The airline will notify you about the delay or cancellations after every 30 minutes. It is their duty to aware you about the status of the flight. Announcements will be made in the boarding area/ throughout the website/ or via call.

Cathay Pacific Refund Policy:

For already refunded ticket you can’t ask for the refund. For the unused ticket, you can ask for the refund directly through the airline or by the agency. After the request, the airline will generate a print with an authorization number of your request. It is allowed for both direct booking or via the travel agent.

  • According to Cathay Pacific’s policy, the ticket will be refunded within 2 years from the ticket issued date. After 2 years there will be no refund for the ticket.
  • A partial refund, you have to change the date and time on your flight booking online.

Refund for Canceling Fully Partially Ticket it will take around 7 days for the credit card transaction and 20 days for the other payment methods.

Cathay Pacific Rebooking Policy:

Rebooking with Cathay Pacific is possible under these conditions:

  • If a passenger wants to change the flight/ transfer point or arrival airport
  • Passenger can rebook the flight if there is a change in flight date by Cathay Pacific
  • Extension of ticket validity
  • In case of rerouting
  • If the class of a ticket is changed.
