A Guide to Indira Gandhi International Airport and its Terminal

Indira Gandhi International Airport located in Palam, 16km from the New Delhi city center serves as the major international aviation hub in New Delhi, India.You can set it as your destination airport while taking a flight to India. It is situated 15 km south-west of New Delhi railway station. More than 40 million of passengers in a year are served at this airport which is spread over an area of 5,106 acres.The airport is the busiest one in India in terms of passenger traffic and cargo too.

 

Terminal Information:-

This airport is a major hub of various carriers such as Air India, SpiceJet, Jet Airways, Vistara, IndiGo, and GoAir. There are three active passenger terminals along with a Hajj terminal and a cargo terminal.

TERMINAL 1:

The terminal 1 operates low-cost carriers like IndiGo, SpiceJet, and GoAir. The terminal is still under construction to increase its passenger capacity from 18 million to30 million within four years.

Terminal 1A:

It was built in the late 1980s, to cater Indian Airlines. The terminal was used by Air India for its Airbus operations. The terminal will be torn down to construct new terminals.

Terminal 1C:-

This terminal 1C operated domestic carriers previously. Further, after an upgrade it is serving as greeting and luggage reclaim area.

Terminal 1D:-

This terminal is situated over 53,000 square meters with the total capacity of handling more than 15 million passengers per year. It consists of 16 self-check-in counters and 16 security channels.

 

TERMINAL 2:-

This terminal was opened for international flight operations but now it is shifted to terminal 3. Basically these days GoAir along with SpiceJet and Indigo operates its daily flights from this terminal.

 

TERMINAL 3:-
  • Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal 3 is a newly built two-tier building which spread over an area of 20 acres with 168 check-in counters, 78 aerobridges at 48 contact stands, 54 parking bays, and 95 immigration counters. The lower floor of the terminal is for arrival and upper floor for departure.
  • This terminal came into operation on 3rd July, 2010 for international operations.
  • Lower floor is the arrival area with14 baggage carousel. Also, this terminal has India’s first automated parking management and guidance system in a multi-level car park comprising seven levels and a capacity of 4,300 cars.
  • Domestic airlines that operates through this terminal are Air India, the national carrier; and Jet Airways. The Tata & Singapore Airlines airline joint-venture Vistara is also operated from this terminal only.

 

TERMINAL 4, 5 & 6:-
  • For further construction the terminals 4, 5 and 6 will be built after growth in passenger and flights. Then all international operations will be moved to these terminals.
  • After complete construction the Terminal 3 will hold all the domestic operations of flight. It will increase the passenger holding capacity of this terminal.

 

Cargo Complex:-

About 1 Km from the terminal 3 of Delhi International Airport the cargo complex is located. IT has separate Brownfield and Greenfield cargo terminals.

Information Desk:Information Booths are in T3 Airside and T3 Landside.

MOBILE CHARGING: There are many charging ports available throughout the airport.

PRAYER ROOM: For spiritual people or those who want to worship can go to the prayer room at the airport located at International Terminal, Airside.

  • MEDICAL SERVICES: For any medical assistance there are two options available.

MedantaTheMedicity for urgent and emergency medical care in all three terminals. In T3, Fortis Medical Facility is also available.

Pharmacy: Guardian Pharmacies are located throughout the terminals available 24 hours.

  • LOCKERS FOR LUGGAGE: Up to 30 days the domestic and international passengers can store luggage for up to 30 days in the Left Luggage Room. The rate depends on the size of the bag.

 

  • FOOD & BEVERAGES: In all terminals there are many food and drink options available 24/7.

BABY CARE FACILITIES: Diaper-changing facilities, baby cot, toys and more are available in the Child Care Lounges, located in every terminal.

CHILDREN’S PLAY AREA: for families with children have an option of making their kids happy at the child play area.

  • Plaza Premium Lounge: At Domestic Departures in Terminal 2, Airside, close to Gate 25. Opening hours: 24 hours.
  • Air India Lounge “Maharaja Lounge”:At Domestic Departures and International Departures.
  • ITC Green Lounge: At International Departures, Airside. Opening hours: 24 hours.
  • Plaza Premium: At Domestic Departures.
  • The Amex Platinum Lounge: At Domestic Departures.

 

AIRPORT HOTELS:

  • Holiday Inn Express New Delhi International Airport: It is located inside the transit area that is divided into two wings international as well as domestic of Terminal 3. It can be accessed from Level 5 of Terminal 3.
  • Sam’s Snooze at My Space: It is located at Terminal 3, International Departures, Gate 17 that can be booked for 3 hours, 4-5 hours, 6-8 hours, etc.
  • Pullman New Delhi Aerocity: It is located near Terminal 1 and 3 that can be accessed only via a 5 minute of walk.

Hotel Delhi Aerocity: It is located about5 minute of drive from Terminal 3.
